Maincy

Located 3 km north-east of Melun, Maincy covers 1,019 hectares, half of which is occupied by the Vaux-le-Vicomte estate, one of the masterpieces of classical 17th-century architecture.

Maincy has managed to preserve both its characteristics as a Briard village and a high-quality natural environment. The charm of its streets and alleys, criss-crossed by the ever-present water, makes it an undeniable tourist attraction.

As well as the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, the jewel in the crown of tourism in the Ile-de-France region, Maincy is home to the Church of Saint Etienne, the Maison des Carmes, where Fouquet set up the tapestry workshops in Maincy, which were later transferred to Paris to become the Manufacture des Gobelins, the bridge at Trois Moulins, the streets and lanes of the village, and the natural heritage of the French Brie plateau through which the river Ancœur flows.
