The Espace Saint-Jean is a multi-purpose cultural centre in the heart of the town, open to the public since October 1988.
A place for exhibitions and cultural exchange
The centre's artistic programme focuses mainly on exhibitions and live performances. Around fifteen exhibitions are put on each season, ranging from visual artists and photographers to themed and family exhibitions, or exhibitions linked to local life. The shows, programmed by the Cultural Action Department, include theatre, music and performances for young audiences.
The Espace Saint-Jean is also a venue for amateur artistic activities: theatre, visual arts, choral singing, French chanson, etc. The associations that run these activities also put on public events: exhibitions, shows, concerts, etc.
Since 1988, the Espace Saint-Jean has presented over 400 exhibitions, attracting more than 700,000 visitors.
A multi-purpose space, the Espace Saint-Jean has several meeting and activity rooms, which can be rented out or made available to associations. Between three and four thousand rooms are used each year.
At the heart of the Melun agglomeration, Espace Saint-Jean also lets you book shows for all the cultural facilities in the community network.
For your day-to-day leisure activities and personal enrichment, the City of Melun's programme includes :
- contemporary art exhibitions with free admission all year round
- concerts: classical music, jazz, blues, rock, French songs, contemporary music, etc.
- theatre
- shows for young audiences
- lectures on contemporary art
but also :
- artistic and leisure activities
- support for associations
- a reception and information service on cultural life, ticketing for all shows
