Created in 1860, the Melun Museum of Art and History is housed in the 16th-century Hôtel de la Vicomté. It houses historical collections illustrating the development of the town, as well as artistic collections (Chapu, Cassagne, etc.).
The charming Musée d'Art et d'Histoire is located in the heart of Melun, on the Île Saint-Etienne. Housed in a former 17th-century town house, the museum is now devoted to the history of the town.
The collections retrace the town's development through 3 periods: Antiquity, the Middle Ages to the Revolution and the 19th century. You can discover "official" artistic productions such as that of Henri Chapu (1833-1891), an artist considered to be one of the most important sculptors of his time.
Temporary exhibitions, guided tours, lectures, workshops, birthday parties, free events... The Musée d'art et d'histoire offers a wide range of activities to learn and have fun at the same time.
Try them on your own, as a family or with friends, from 3 to 100 years old!
