Church of Saint-Aspais

A listed Gothic church, Saint-Aspais is the largest church in Melun, with a striking "irregular trapezoidal" plan. Its sculptures, 16th-century stained glass windows and bell tower make it an exceptional church.

Flamboyant Gothic jewel

The first mention of Saint-Aspais church dates back to 1080. It was completely rebuilt in the 16th century to the plans of Jehan de Felin, renowned architect of the Tour Saint-Jacques in Paris.
Built right in the centre of Melun, Saint-Aspais church has an "irregular trapezoidal" plan. It is the largest church in the town.

An exceptional interior

A visit to the interior is a must if you want to admire the sculptures, real stone lacework, the altarpieces and the preciousness of the groined vaults. What's more, the church still has some of its original stained glass windows, masterpieces of the 16th century, particularly in the choir.

It was listed as a Historic Monument in 1914.
